AMT 25/22 .22LR Rifle (10/22 clone)
plus a bunch of other AMT .22LR 'back-up' type pistols.....

Think this was built as a rifle in USA before import (via Theoben ? ) into the UK , mind you if its sec 5 it would mean a few red faces originally on a policemans sec 1 then transferd onto a temp sec 1 owned by a policeman all in the same county .

Yeah, the picture posted does not look like an AMT22 which definitely is a pistol.
More likely to be an AMT 25/22 in disguise.

Picking it up Sat along with some other bits and bobs . Video seems to rate the receiver better than 10/22 if you like heavy .

That's what I was thinking.....could be a nice swap if you have one of the 'modern' plastic receiver 10/22s. Mine's an old aluminium model and even that has taken some battering over the years, a stainless replacement could be a nice change.

The Lightning’s were very well regarded in the US. A better quality 10/22. The pistols, from the Hardballer, to the Backups to the Automags again, we’re very well regarded. I once new a bloke who had a .30 Carbine AMT pistol. Big, huge muzzle flash even on a sunny day!

When Arcadia made them , quality control left a bit to be desired. Its main selling point was the stainless steel receiver .
If you got a good one , it was as good as a Ruger10/22 , if you got a bad one you saved a fortune on ammo .
When IAI bought AMT , they didnt make many rifles , most of what they made was from left over parts .
Galena Industries bought IAI and made many AMT pistols and rifles . Again with quality control problems.
When Galena went bust a lot of the tooling and large parts were bought by Hi Standard .
Hi Standard did assemble some rifles and was supposed to have had more castings made by a firm in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
A good one was at best a single shot rifle !
AMT etc , had at least 5-6 UK distributers during its many incarnations.
As someone has spent a lot of money adapting a fore end and other bits onto this rifle its a good bet to assume it can shoot .
Just remember the rifle could be 30+ years old . Value it on that basis .
