depends which model of boing you have, once apple brings out new phones they slowly stop updates on older ones so there is a limit as to how updated it can be, over time apps cant be updated or downloaded as your operating system isnt upto date enough and you need a newer version which you cant download as that phone is no longer supported, and then you need a new phone to keep upto date

Cracking business model they have really

This one I have installed, as it only logs things locally.
Installed on my android, and and doesn't seem to have had a noticeable effect on the battery.

It does use BlueTooth, so if you don't normally have that turned on it might use more battery than normal.

My missus tried on her boing 5 and it won't work, not high enough version, but the phone says its up to date..

Thats the problem with iphones, they go out of date too quickly..

Phones generally, Apple are the best of the major manufacturers, they normally give five years of updates from the last sale of the phone/tablet/computer.

Most manufacturers (andriod) only seem to do 2 years, from date of first sale (not last).

Mostly its just the technology is still moving too quickly. Unlike things like cars (or firearms) which are largely a mature technology, new things are being developed regularly. A computer or mobile phone from 20 years ago simply isn't practical.

I've installed it. No reason not too really. I don't fear for my persec since its all being tracked by Google and Facebook anyway. Likewise the concerns around false positives (they could be through a wall and you never come in contact) are also not a worry as I can then make my own judgement call if I get an alert.

I'm not entirely uninformed. The IET, amongst others, have had plenty of debates and seminars around this that discusses the technology and addresses concerns.

We have the track & trace app on the entrance into the workshop and I am pointing it out to customers, none of whom have had the app installed.

Back in July the Government admitted the Test and Trace programme has been operating unlawfully from the beginning due to its failure to produce a legally required data safety assessment.

With the launch of the NHSX App the Government has still not provided a public Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) which is a legal requirement so even if I possessed a personal 'smart' phone I would refuse to install it.

Had an email from the NHS saying the software has to be 13.5 or above. Guess their website is wrong.

Had a very socially distanced open air conversation with fellow club members yesterday on how the app would determine your "contacts". For example somebody in the car to you at traffic lights or somebody you passed in the street? However it appears the app's criteria are; somebody within 2 meters of you for more than 15 minutes and on that basis there's nothing for me to gain by downloading the app. I'm currently not socialising in the wider community and spending 15 minutes in close contact with people other than family members or a few people I know personally. I can see the point of the app if I was out and using public transport etc or attending events with random groups of people. I'm not anti-tech or anti-tracking, my fitness tracker requires my phones Bluetooth and location switched on and Google's timeline records an approximate location of places I've visited by tracking my phone.

I see a lot of problems with this...a lot of people won't install for a variety of reasons and then there are the ones like me with an old smartphone which can't update to the required version.
