Define religious going on...
Freemasons have their roots in paganism. Last time I checked paganism was described as a religion.

Oh dear me, so it is true that anyone can write whatever they feel like online.
Starting with satanic freemasonry...not sure those two words ever went together.
JW's and freemasonry, well...

Freemasonary is based on morality, and like Toby H says, no religion and no politics. There is a whole host of non sense on the internet about Masons and Masonary.
Also think about this.. If Freemasonary was such an evil organisation as some would have you believe then why don't Freemasons know about it? And if the answer to this is that only the top people know what it is really all about then how do the authors know? The problem is that what people don't know about, they will make up!

To the best of my knowledge, Freemasonry is not proscribed.

Their roots lie in paganism. Nothing wrong with that, just that nowadays paganism is described as a religion. I am not sure I agree with that description but there you go.
All Freemasons believe in a supreme being of their choice. It all started back in the late C16th.
My uncle used to be a Freemason but during the last 10 years before he died he decided it was no longer worthwhile to be a member for personal reasons.
Freemasonry is not evil, nor based on anything evil. Very often it is to do with support (especially business, at least in DK) a "club" where men hang out away from the wifes. They have loads of rituals that bind them together, rituals that are based in paganism.

My old supervisor is a Mason in one of the big London Lodges. He wrote a book about it all. When the subject of Freemasons came up he gave me a leaflet his lodge had published to explain a little of what they were about. The impression I got was that they did a lot of charity work that we never hear about. One of the items on the leaflet explained how when a member is down on their luck, serious illness ect, they would give money to pay bills to take the pressure off until they were back on their feet.
I have heard it said that it is not a "Secret Society" but a "Society with Secrets".
