I have just received my Hatsan MPA and have undertaken an initial strip down of some of the major parts. Nothing too nasty discovered - I fired one test shot through it and was surprised how little it hurt my shoulder. I normally hold shotguns incorrectly and cause myself all kinds of damage ! I did make a conscious point of holding this correctly. I am now looking into the possibility of purchasing the telescopic adjustable stock and legally fitting it to an MPA. I will be using the standard MPA in a PSG comp next weekend so I'll let you know how it goes. I had a quick look at the possible problem of a miss fed shell ejecting back and catching between the two loading gate 'fingers' but no thoughts either way on this at the moment. We will see how it performs next weekend. I do like the feel of the gun, slightly heavier than expected but it certainly looks and feels sturdy.

GG

p.s. When I have a minute I will look into the feasibility of making a maximum length magazine tube for my Hatsan Escort as I don't think anything 'off the shelf' is available.

Mine jammed a couple of times on Saturday at PSG, mainly slug loads with the shell not loading into the chamber but may be something on the edge of the crimp made by the Lee press, I'll have a look at a few and check to see they are fully concentric and smooth.

Only other problem is feeding it, the load gate is quite stiff and clunky and watching Mark (Blackstuff) loading his Benelli it's a lot smoother and faster as was the Rem 1100 that was there.

I am copying this from an entry today on my Facebook page:

Firstly I must say that I have not had experience of too many shotguns but this is the first 12g that I have used that has not resulted in me having either a bruised cheek or shoulder. I was using 28g 7 1/2. It could be that the Hatsan MP fits me better than the other guns that I have used or that I now automatically hold the gun correctly. It could be that the Hatsan's 'smart' recoil system takes the 'punch' out of things. It could be that as this is quite a heavy shotgun it also helps to soak up the recoil. It could be a bit of everything but I did come away from the 2 Gun comp feeling very happy with the Hatsan - it would have helped if I had zeroed the .22 for that section of the comp as my scoring on this was awfull ! I did experience a shell getting caught between the two loading 'fingers' but this was my fault for not pushing the shell completely into the magazine. On a forum recently someone mentioned that if you overload the magazine and the last round pushes back between the two fingers this is a major problem - when I have made some dummy rounds I will try to replicate this scenario. I appreciate that it is easy to lose count when loading in the middle of a comp - I was thinking that a small hole in the mag tube, in the appropriate place, would give a window to show when the final acceptable shell had been loaded. I will, no doubt, take this gun to pieces over the next few months and have a 'tinker', as you do ! All in all my limited experience to date of this Hatsan has been very positive.

I find the Hatsan "fit" perfect for me, especially the pump action version, not a long reach like Mossberg etc all designed for big US shooters.....Turks are more like us in stature so perchance the Hatsan is a better fit all round, plus that new recoil system in the butt..

Same for me Chuck, I shoot the hatsan escort pump, and it just works for me! My only criticism of it is the loading speed... it's just not designed to be loaded quickly and cleanly, but for the price I cant really complain :)

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
