Lyman shotgun slug

#1 Post by mr smith »

I have just bought some lyman slug to use in the plasic wads(make unknown) i have previously used with Lee slug. The Lyman's much more of a snug fit in the wad producing a very slight bulge. What wads has anyone used with the lyman and got them to fit okay?

TVM.

WAA12F114 is the most prolific wad in the Lyman data. I myself used WAA12SL. In short, I found the slug to be disappointing. Thankfully saddler sent me some before I sprang for the Lyman mold and handles.....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

The Lyman slug doesn't go in a plastic wad but sits on cardboard and felt wads.
Purveyor of fine cast boolits.

YES - it does sit in a plastic wad

There are TWO types of Lyman slug now

The olde foster round nose style and the newer flat nose type

i.e.
OLD

NEW

The olde one is the type that sits on top of card/felt wads.
The one being discussed is the newer type, designed to go INTO a standard wad

...me too

SimG never liked it...blamed his bad loads

I really like the design. Great that the standard crimp can be used for it, not just a roll crimp

Will be doing some home-rolled buckshot this year too!!
