And the obvious choice for a suppressed "pistol" ............. 300aac Blackout, nice small cartridge with the ability to perform extremely well with both subsonic (for indoor 25m) and supersonic ammunition.

What's the cost like though Phaedra?
I fancy a carbine in 300 Blackout but I reckon it's still quite expensive to buy and reload?

For me it all depends on what it looks like and how you reload it.

As an aside, Home Office guidance on UK produced firearms require a year of manufacture on the receiver however they do not stipulate the exact nature of the serial, this means I can produce these with customer specific serial numbers if there was sufficient interest.

As an example:
14-MDJ001
14-SGR001

Right now it does not even have a name and is only referred to by the drawing number start sequence which is S145-1
sign01 You're supposed to be making it easier for me to say no to this, rather than harder!

Might as well use 7.62 Micro Whisper ( or 7.63 Mini Whisper) - basically the same as your case.

It's just a guess but I would say that wouldn't meet the original spec of something that would shoot cheap factory ammo
