In a post apocalypse situation surely things would be awful enough without having to ride a bicycle as well! kukkuk

At least the lack of food would eventually give me the right kind of build for a bicycle :-)

What you really want is something reliable, easy to maintain, tough as boots, not that thirsty, plentiful (so you can get spares), decent load carrying, and reasonable off road.

In that case I'm going for a Ford Transit......

I'll trade a little bit of complexity (Dual Mass Flywheel, Hi Pressure Diesel Injection Pumps etc) for availability of spares (can even rob bits off a mondeo), and I'll trade off 4x4 (Though you can get 4x4 transits) for front wheel drive with decent ground clearance so I can get the other attributes (fuel efficieny, load carry etc).

Like this?

A sturdy native cob or pony is well up to heavy loads, can live off rough grazing, has feet tough enough that they don't need shoes, can go over the roughest ground, jump over a fence or wall with you on their backs, and have one unique advantage over any mechanical form of transport; they can breed their own replacements!
:D

Tho I have to admit, they aren't everybody's cup of tea!

Cheers,

Jack
