Hi, looking at slowly building a long range rifle f open rifle, I have been offered a 1983 Grunig Elmiger round receiver 300m (non adjustable cheek rest, pistol grip) in 7.62/308 26" barrel
Would this be a suitable receiver to start a build on? what would the working life of this receiver be?
I would plan on shooting the rifle as is and learning the sport, then rebarelling to a 30" barrel

The price of the entire rifle (comes with suitable bipod and sightron scope) would get me a Barnard action but not much more.

Does anyone have any information/opinions on these receivers? the manufacture although very helpful had no instruction/service manuals available

The Grunig is a good enough receiver and I suspect tolerances will still be good so it will have plenty of life left and should be good enough to form the basis of an accurate rifle.

The problem is - if you get serious and re-barrel and maybe re-stock (I suspect the 300m stock will be rather heavy and with a 30 inch barrel could take you close to the weight limit), you will have a substantial investment in something which could have a poor re-sale value - compared to say a Barnard build but, if that's not a problem - OK. You'll end up with a decent enough rifle.

If the Sightron is an 8-32, this will be good enough for a competitive F Class gun out to 1000 yards. If the magnification is less than 32x then the buy is not so attractive as you will eventually want another scope.

But, if you're paying under a grand for the whole outfit, it's good enough to get you started and find out if you like F Class.

The scope is only 24x, but will suffice for the first learning stage which will probably be at 300-600.

Does anyone know what kind of trigger fits these receivers, I read somewhere it was anschutz but which models?

The Barnard is a far secon contender to the Grunig.. Material,concept,finishes, trigger, etc,etc.... Schweizer genauigkzit!!.

I don't know the part number, but I can show you a photo.

• Top is the round action 2-lug with Anschutz trigger.
• Middle us an early (80s) ST200 action with Grünig trigger (plate frame).
• Bottom is a late (2000's) ST200 action with Grünig trigger (machined frame).

The trigger is the old Anschuetz one wjth the steel housing, but with the top lever slightly modified to suit the G+E sear lever who is part of the action itself. A first class trigger.

Anyone have a ball park indicative price on an 83 in standard isu stock, good condition?

So it's not a standard anschutz trigger, dang as I have one I wanted to swap in but I don't want to modify it.

The modification iseasy to made. Just grind off the sear hppk pn the Anschutz trifgger lever.
