Russian wood refinished

I've spent some time last week refinishing the stock and handguards off the Dragunov as the original finish was cracking a bit and I'm pleased with how they've turned out.As they are Soviet-era Arctic Birch I wanted a traditional look to them so used iodine and amber shellac to get the desired effect, pretty much as the Russians did at the factory.

The end result was very glossy so I knocked the shine back with some 0000 grade wire wool which softened them nicely.

Nice job! :good:

I have a Siberian Birch stock on my Soviet era Vostok CM-2, and it looks really good too.

Nice job on the Dragunov - My old CM-2 looked like it had been dipped in a drum of burnt treacle. Shot alright though.
