General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

#1 Post by Christel »

I have emailed all users regarding the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and have received several replies, there are a few bounces which I will deal with later.
Please note as it was a mass email recipients will not be disclosed.

Thank you to all who has replied so far.

So...... with these new data protection laws does anyone with stored information have to contact you for permission to carry on holding it?

Hello , I naturally don't like to reply to emails unless I know its authentic , I just need to know that the attached email is authentic and not a Trojan ? I certainly don't want my account to be deleted however I also don't want to be replying to a conman in Nigeria or Russia hope you understand.

That is the same as the one I received and I have been assured it is authentic by Christel the writer.

They are not new as such, the Data Protection Act came into force in 1998.
This new regulation that is in force from Friday 25th of May is exactly that, a regulation which means it did not have to pass Government.

So look upon it as an extension of the already in place Data Protection Act.

For a lot of businesses it means the privacy policy needs to be updated and wherever personal data is held we basically have to ask permission to keep it, it is a lot more complicated than that however you get the abridged version :)

One more thing, the permission has to be given actively, a company can't say if we hear nothing we assume...

This comes into effect Friday and it is interesting to see just how few companies we deal with have actually done anything so far and a reasonable percentage of those that have said 'We will carry on as normal if we do not hear from you' Or words to that effect and it is my understanding that this unlawful.

Nothing received at my end. I've checked Inbox and Spam/junk folders and cant find anything.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
