I’ve fired a straight pull Imbel and a L1A1 and the extraction was.....er....”a bit of an effort” on both, don’t know if it was down to the ammo/cases but compared to my SVD they required a lot more effort. The 54r case has more of a taper than 7.62x51 NATO/.308 Winchester so that may make a difference.
I think the non-tapered cases don't help but it was my understanding that the FAL had problems because unlike the SVD, AK, AR, Garand etc the FAL is not a rotating bolt which really helps with extraction when it's not semi-auto. I've seen a VZ-58 in .223 have the same problem.

I've tried both the L1A1 (Anglo version) and the Imbel FALs (Sabre Defence). Both were ok with standard GGG 147gr, but the MEN equivalent was a disaster in them. Obviously if you reload, then no problem at all.

My mate has a Ross for sale…
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Heh, there is no such thing as a cheap Ross unless you buy one like mine that has been sporterised and is probably going to cost me more than the Vikings car did for me to restore it to as it was designed.
