I have a non gunsmith mount for my No4 but no scope. I will only be shooting out to 100yds but these days my eyes need assistance.

I would like recommendations for a suitable but not to expensive scope

regards and thanks

Geoff

You could do worse than a Hawke scope, I have a 3-9x40 Frontier and a 5-15x50 Endurance which has illuminated mil dot reticule and side focus, both of which have given good service on my Swiss K31 without issue.

There are plenty on offer on ebay both new and s/h for change out of £100

I have one of the Vortex Crossfire II style of scopes on my No4 on a Fultons mount.

The scope was less the £150 brilliant bit of glass & lifetime guarantee.

thank you for the information. I know very little about scopes so the recommends are very helpful.

I have no problem mounting scopes on such rifles, but always think it’s nice if they’re a vintage scope. Although still younger than your rifle, a nice second hand 1970s Japanese Tasco, a 60s Weaver or a Pecar.

Modern Philippines or Chinese produced scopes can be very good at reasonable prices, but feck they’re “soul-less”. Stick a wanted add up in the sales and see what’s about!

I have an old lithglow SMLE with a Simmons WTC 1.5-5x20 which is keeping it in the spirit, bit of sandbag to disguise it.

I think it is an SK style no gunsmith mount from Fultons, was not expensive and if I remember right I'm sure just a small bit of woodwork needed sanding to get the action ring on.
If you bang on a big scope then there is more possibility of movement or mount damage due to recoil or so I have read on a few forums.

Thanks, just realised I can offer more to this thread:

This is what my No4 Mk1 looked like when I picked it up for a few hundred quid, bit of a monster, another no gunsmith mount. Gives you an idea how the wrong scope ruins the look and feel.

And this is how it looks when I shoot it now, much better :D
