For those that have an interest in older pre-1945 lever action rifles....
This rifle has been in the family for a little over 54 years. I have hunted with it several times when I was a kid. I moved up to the 30-30 (also in the family for over 54 years) but have reverted back to the mid-range dash calibers.
This is is chambered for the 44-40. The sling has always been on it an appears to use the old black powder shotgun sling "swivels". The forward attachment is soldiered to the barrel. I took the old sling and used it as a pattern to make a new one, using the original parts. I wanted it brown but the leathersmith made it black.
It shoots just fine with smokeless or black powder load
