Argentine Model 1909 rifle

I have just got this rifle to add to the collection. I had to make an essential journey to my RFD, who is quite near, to collect it. It is in 7.65mm and was made in 1910 and seems to be in OK condition. It is all matching including the cleaning rod. The throat looks a bit worn so it has had some use over the last 111 years. I have loaded some ammo using the Hornady 0.312 174 grain round nose bullet and Norma 203B powder. It is not too big a disaster if it doesn't shoot very well as it is for collecting rather than prize winning. A nice piece of history.

Some more pics.
After the first 3000 or so rifles, they added a bayonet adapter so the rifle would take the M1891 bayonet.
Another nice South American crest.

Very nice.
I had a Brazilian DWM 1908 in 7mm
Shot extremely well but my eye sight cannot manage the open sights very well so i sold it in 2019.

If you don't already have it I highly recommend Colin Websters Argentine Mauser rifles 1871-1959, it sets the context of why the Mauser was so successful among the southern nations.
As a taster, one of the sections covers markings and looking at the crest it comprises the following elements:
The Frigian cap an ancient symbol of freedom, held on a pick symbolizing the determination to protect freedom by force of arms
The clasped hands symbolizes the union between the United southern provinces
The rising sun representing the birth of a new nation
The wreath of laurels celebrating the nations victory of it's colonial masters.

Daryldiane, I bought a Brazilian 1908 in 2019 from South Hants Classics, number 4173. It wasn't yours was it?
Spikeduellar, I bought the book at the same time as the rifle. It makes me want an Model 1891 and a carbine now.
