They do shoot.

I have shot a 1937 K98 with 1957 ammunition and open sights at 1000 yards and it did OK and I shot an original K98 Sniper with provenance at 300m which grouped at not much more than 1 MOA at that distance. I also have a trade customers M1930 Mauser sniper here that holds better than 1 MOA at 600 yards on a still day.

Wow......that's good going.

I've shot my 243 1940 K98k at 600yrds with PPU match ammo, using original sights and managed a score in the high teens, which I thought was pretty good given the standard K98k sight picture is awful and my eyes are awful with iron sights lol
My previous K98kF1 with the modified sights was much better, but I really disliked shooting the 30-06 round out of a K98k....... it was not pleasant.

The rifle belonged to Dirtbag of this forum and was a cracking rifle to shoot

Wanna bet!
1000 easily with WW2 era s.S-Patrone 7.92x57 ammo.

Check out this 9 Hole video of range testing his repro-sniper built up K98k out to 1100yrds.

Thanks for the video. Now when I book 1000yds at Bisley, (in few days time...) along with my 300WinMag I’ll take my K98 too. I don’t have much army surplus ammo left, but I have cases and heads. So I’ll load them up with VV recommended load and I’ll shoot them. I never shot any open sights past 600 before and now I am even more curios how well I’ll compensate bullet drop and windage.
More reasons to pursuit a scope mount system on K98.
