Another Danish military rifle

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

No idea what the calibre is but I can stick my finger down the end of this one! This is a wall hanger at the shooting centre and was used in the First Schleswig War between Denmark and Germany in 1848, this rifle was later presented to the shooting club and was in use as a shooter until 1900. I found it of interest as I am reading about Danish rifles makers and military rifles at the moment (OK Christel is reading to me as it is in Danish)

Hopefully the Viking will translate the document so we can all understand it.
It was the Second Schleswig War a few years later where the Danes lost amongst other things to superior rifle power (They were still using ML's) that led to the introduction of the Krag Jorgensen breach loading rifles.

Percussion rifle,

This rifle was on the 15th of April donated to DDS Vestjylland (the club that runs this range) by Niels Korsgaard from Ulfborg.

In 1862 the central organisation for the foundation of shooting clubs gave 5 rifles to the newly started Ulfborg and Area Shooting Club.

One of these 5 rifles turned up in the 1970's and has since then been kept with one of the members of the shooting club.

The rifle was used during the First Schleswig War 1848 - 1849 and has since they were donated to the club been used by the club until 1900.

I think I have a Danish Snider somewhere that would have been converted from one of those.
