Hi all.



Does anyone know What’s the difference between these rifles apart from the stocks?

CZ 457 Long Range Precision or MTR. Both in 22LR

I did know as I researched them both a while back.
I *think* the MTR has a match barrel where as the LRP has the same chamber but not a match barrel?
The LRP also comes with the 25MOA rail but the stock is the main difference

I thought they were the same barrel and action however I have not checked. It is intriguing to see CZ claim 15,0mm groups at 50m with the MTR, I would expect that from my 90 year old BSA Model 15 with open sights, rested.

Having said that, I really do like the look of the MTR.

I’ve just read it’s the same action and barrel. Just the barrel is fluted.

I have an MTR, but it is definitely not a 'match' rifle. It might be ok in a tin can shooting contest, but it would never come close to beating an Anschutz Match 54 or any of the old BSA Martini actioned .22's.

Interesting. I didn’t assume it would be like our Anschutz.

Would you say the 15mm groups at 50 yards is correct?

I’ve just picked up a premium as I wanted iron sights and apparently that was tested at the factory and I think that was a 13mm three shot group.
Cant say any better than that as I shoot off hand with it and can confidently say it shoots better than me.

I would think 15mm would be optimistic although it does depend on how many shots and how you measure the groups - I believe Eley/Lapua quoted figures, as confirmed in their fixed barrels for batch testing are measured "outside to outside" rather than the more usual centre to centre used in centrefire groups.

10 shot groups of 18-20mm (50 metres) don't seem unusual when testing top of the range Tenex match ammunition through the Eley test barrels.

You would be having a really exceptional day to produce 15mm groups at 50 yards in the real world. I think CZ - as well as other manufacturers - clamp the actions in a vice, indoors, when testing for accuracy, so being able to reproduce their results when you're full of mud and soaked to the bone is doubtful.

Right, how do we measure groups? This was shot earlier today 'Off the Bench.'

OK, the bench is an old wooden ammunition crate with a squeeze bag underneath to stop the woodwork getting graunched. The rifle is a Vickers Empire model from the early 1930's. Ammunition was Lapua Centre-X because I had a box open, I shot a handful to foul and 10 shots for effect. Distance was exactly 50m and that is an LSA target with a 3" Shoot-N-C so I could see fall of shot.

Group size is 17.6mm wide by 22.8mm to the outside of the holes. I measure that centre to centre as around 12,1mm X 17,3mm. (Witnessed)

Rifle and shooter probably have a combined age of 150 years plus :)

The plan was to zero then shoot my last cards however it chucked it down so we called it a day.
