Pin chucks

Can you buy pin chucks or are they normally home made. Has any one made one or used one.
This is the sort of thing I mean these look home made.

Many engineering suppliers stock , I have a set by Starret .

I know that Eclipse used to make them?

what are you after as thats what pin chucks are to most people?

Having done some googling there is apparently a woodworking tool called a pin chuck, which is a spindle with a flat like the images above, on which is placed a pin. This is inserted into a hole and when rotated in a lathe, the pin rolls off centre to lock the work piece in place.

Never heard or seen it before.

I use a number of the eclipse machinists pin vices, very useful I find.

Yes that is exactly what I was looking for. I guess I will have to make them my self.

is the flat, well flat? or at an angle so it rolls and forms a wedge? and then need left handed and right handed versions?
