RCBS Powder measure baffle.

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

Does fitting a powder baffle to the RCBS powder measure make any difference to the metering of the powder are they worth fitting. I am using Vitavouri N555 every now and then the powder binds and dumps part of the charge on my bench. Its annoying and messy.
What sort of powder dispensers are you guys using.

as I understand it, baffles are more to do with taking the weight of the powder in the dispenser, off the mechanism, to give a more uniform throw, regardless of powder quantity in the hopper

Throw the baffle away. They simply do not work and lead to inaccurate charges.

Currently there is more powder being dumpded on the desk top than in the scale pan. I have had the powdet diepenser to bits and It still binds and dumps powder. I normally drop the bulk of the charge in the scale pan using the RCBS powder dispenser then trickle up with the target master.

Taking the p*** aside you have 3 variables (maybe more) in this scenario and you are concentrating on just one.
The powder dispenser, the powder and you. One might add the environment.
Is the powder dry? Has it ever got damp?
Is the dispenser clean (spotless)?
Do you use the identical procedure every dispense of powder?
I hope this helps.

Cleaned the drum and wiped over with a solvent cleaned the adjustable plug that sets the weight of powder. Re assembled and set to I used a toffee hammer to tap the drum between throws I still had a couple of binds and powder dumps but not as bad as before. Any way I loaded 100 rounds of 6.5 Creedmoor so that's it for now.
