As per the other threads I have posted regarding this rifle.
I have checked it using Clymer SAMMI go and no go gauges and I am not concerned about the head spacing.
I have completely dismantled the bolt Chemically cleaned it and reassembled it.
I have checked the cartridge over all length using a once fired case and a 139grain Lapua Scenar bullet.
I have used Nosler 120grain and 130grain
I have used Norma bullets, Sierra bullets etc etc. I can not reach any of the recommended cartridge over all lengths using any of these bullets. I know they are the recommended maximum over all length but I would like to be able to build to those lengths if i wished.
The maximum cartridge over all length I can achieve in this rifle using a 139grain Scenar is 2.960 and that is jammed into the rifling I have to use a cleaning rod to dislodge the bullet.
So how do I fix this rifle how do we get it to perform.

This is my 6.5x55 throating reamer.
When I have some spare time I will remove the barrel from the action. Pop the barrel in the four jaw with the muzzle in a spider dial it in and recut the throat.

JOB DONE.

Just thinking out loud.
I could in theory ditch the 6.5x55 barrel and return it to its original .308 calibre.
Or I could cut the 6.5x55 blank back recut the thread and have it re chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
This gun thing makes life so interesting don't you just love it.

Just throat the x55 or chop the barrel and chamber in 6,5x47 Lapau which is a superior cartridge if you are a home loader (If you prefer average ex commie block factory look away now)

I have a brand new and unused BBT reamer and gauges if you get stuck.

I am a hand loader and have been for years and years the only round I don't hand load is .22.

I also have a 6.5 CIP Creedmoor finishing reamer and CIP go and no go gauges this is what made me think of cutting back and re chambering in 6.5 Creedmoor.
I also considered the 6.5x47 Lapua but I would have to buy in the reamer and gauges and that would make it an expensive rifle.

I all ready have a 6.5x55 throating reamer so I will probably go with that.

What makes you think that the 6.5x47 is a superior cartridge.
Is that a Superior cartridge to the 6.5x55 or a Superior cartridge to the 6.5 Creedmoor.
No more work this week so the week end is about removing the barrel from the action and some lathe time.

What is the difference between a 6,5mm 123 grain Scenar leaving a 1:8 barrel at 2800fps and a 6,5mm 123 grain Scenar leaving a 1:8 barrel at 2800fps? Nothing, not a single thing unless you modify the bullet itself which actually makes more of a difference in my opinion than the cartridge at this level. Stu Tayler is doing well at Diggle with pointed bullets right now.

Been reading up and viewing stuff on throating barrel chambers. PTG in the USA do a throating tool in lots of calibers that allow you to cut the throat with out removing the barrel its a dedicated tool.
Obviously over there every one would just buy one of these and do the business in there garage or shop. Gun smiths who would be doing this on a regular basis will obviously have several of these in there tool box.
Interesting but obviously I don't have access to one of these tools unless I was willing to fork out over £250 pounds but that's not going to happen.
Just shows the difference between the USA shooting scene and the UK.

Alpha - please don't under-estimate the throating-reamer process - it's one of the easiest to get wrong!
