stripping 1911

24" and less, a place to discuss all things handgun related, section 7.3. Long barrelled revolvers, long barrelled pistols and section 5. Overseas contributions are more than welcome.

stripping 1911

#1 Post by Steve12345 »

Morning all,

Just wondering how hard it is to field strip a 1911? As a complete novice could I watch some youtube videos and give it ago or is it best left to someone who knows that they are doing? I'm sure I could get it apart but when putting it back together is it quite obvious how all the pieces fit or do I risk something not working properly?

thanks

Are we talking a .22LR LBP 1911? If so then no extra tools required. Follow YT vids.

If a centre fire calibre, you may struggle with the recoil spring without a barrel bushing tool.

Hi CDM5

its a .45, I assume that is centrefire? I'll have a look at the tool you mention if it may need one?

Hello
Sorry how have you managed to get hold of a colt 1911
section 7/3, Deactivated. ?
You seem to know very little about the pistol as you did not know it was even a .45
Please excuse me if my assumptions are incorrect

Thank you, busy the next few weeks but when I have a bit of time i'll watch a few videos and give it a go!
Also just noticed your home club is The Tunnel, I was down that way last week at Charmouth Beach, didn't realise how close I was to the range until I was looking at things to do. I actually looked at having a go but they don't take same day bookings which was a shame. Nice beaches though.

Couple of threads to read will explain all. But I think we can all appreciate the hard work Steve12345 put in to keep a trophy of war in his family's hands without butchering it via de-activation.

I was down there last thursday

yeah unfortunately a selfish guy ruined it for us when he tried to paint the ceiling with his own noggin, so future bookings only

The 1911 is a service weapon designed to be easily feld stripped without tools. It's easily stripped and reassembled, but not as easy as more modern service handguns. As said watch one of numerous videos on YouTube.

Ah I remember reading about that, might even have been on this forum, can't remember. So the no same day bookings was in reaction to that incident then?
