7.5 x 55 Swiss

#1 Post by Jimminy234 »

I’ve just put if for a variation for a k31, my reloading book hasn’t got an entry for it and I’m seeing conflicting information.
My understanding is I need a bullet diameter of .306 and that’s what’s in the ppq ammo you can buy. But I’ve also seen people saying they reload with .308 bullets.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for info on this, the places I’ve been list bullet weights but not the diameter.
Has anyone got any recommendations for cast bullets as that’s what I’m planning on using at first for gallery type loads.
Thanks.

I've had a k31 for over a decade. I don't know where you are getting your information from but I've never seen any reference to nominal bullet diameter as anything other than .308. My k31 has a groove diameter of .3086", which is acceptable. I've just measured, with a properly calibrated micrometer, a sample of the ppu bullet (B345) and they are .308". It is very good with cast bullets, I use the Lee 150gr flat nose and the 200gr. Sized to .310". Obviously commercially cast bullets will be sized to the accepted nominal diameter of .308" so would be useless in my rifle.

Lee's Modern reloading quotes the bullet diameter for 7.7x55 Swiss as .308.
I also had good results with the .308 PPU 174gn FMJBT bullet (B345).
The K31 tends to have a short throat and I found the best cast bullet in mine, was the 155gn .312 Lee bullet gas checked to .309

We have had good results with PPU bullets in our K31, loaded with either a light load of RS30 powder for indoor use, or RS52 for full fat rounds. There are loading data on Reload Swiss's site at https://www.reload-swiss.com/en/reload_ ... hw_mass=ft

Hi...I've reloaded for my K31 for years & the good people on SwissRifles forum took apart a GP11 round that was designed for this rifle many years ago..... They concluded that the nearest bullet to the GP11 round in all respects was the .308 Sierra Match King 175g, the powder that was closest was RS60. I forget what case & primer was used but I use PPU & CCI LR No200. I have developed a round using this combination & managed to get out with some accuracy at a 1000yds...so it can be done!
Hope that helps....👍

Hello

I reload for both of my Swiss 7.5x55mm rifles using Sellier and Bellot 308x147grn FMJs and have no problems whatsoever, also with good accuracy at my 100m range.

I’ve recent purchased one and after much research found that almost everybody is using the 174gr PPU in .308 or cast alternatives.
Would be interested to hear what powder people have used for down loaded “range” loads with cast bullets

Go into the `Library` forum and check out the `Cast loads for military rifles` folder, plenty of information to be had there.
