Please be assured that the insurance bill is the last thing on the NRAs mind in this matter. The only insurance concern is to be as certain as possible that everyone shooting under NRA auspices is insured against third-party risks. And the NRA does not ban downloads. It just requires that, when on NRA ranges, you fire them on a range which would be safe and in limits if you were to fire a full-charge round. The NRA rule is stated in the negative - perhaps the positive wording would be clearer.Blackstuff wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 8:22 amI didn't say it wasn't. THIS is the entire issue. They've had to set a standard (which may be lower than some of the handloaders on here, but a standard nonetheless) and if you're found not to meet it (only AFTER something has gone wrong of course), then you're the one footing the bill, not the NRA/Bisley/MOD/Landmarcbradaz11 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 10:58 ambut loading properly to a lower than book velocity is as safe as loading to book. the key word is properly. If you aren't able to do that, then loading to book is just as much of a risk.Blackstuff wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 8:29 am
That IS the issue, are they safe? There have been several accidents at Bisley attributed to inappropriate handloads and this is the ar£e covering exercise so when someone is injured (or worse) its not their insurance picking up the tab.
how do they know they are loaded at home and not factory?
The easiest way to tell if someone is using handloaded or factory ammo I've found at rifle ranges is simply because factory loads come out of factory boxes, handloads come in handloaders boxes/already in magazines etc. Obviously theres a simple way of defrauding that but that would take forethought that most people don't consider when they're just trying to enjoy their sport.
NRA Handloaders certification.

NRA reloading code of practise
Hello
Don`t know if this is new but my club has just sent this out to all club member who reload it seems that the any club that is affiliated to the NRA must record all its members that reload and ask them to sign a declaration to this fact.

The NSRA require a similar declaration, probably an insurance thing.

I filled in and submitted the form a good while back, but have heard nothing from NRA (my sole club) yet...

Passing through - disappointed to read some of the posts here attacking the NRA. Perhaps the introduction of the hand load on your SCC means you can carry on using MOD ranges who maybe got concerned at the cumulative civilian ammo mishaps occurring on their ranges? Maybe if the NRA hadn’t introduced it as a solution, access to the MOD ranges could well have been conveniently stopped?

Re: NRA Handloaders certification.
Maybe if the NRA did its job properly in representing gun ownership and shooters in claiming to be a "national" organisation then we wouldn't be subject these daft conditions imposed by the MoD who don't want civilian shooters on their ranges anyway.
The only reason the NRA does this is because Bisley is an MoD range, if it wasn't then the NRA wouldn't bother their arse for the rest of this country.
UK gun ownership is on it's knees, in decline and withering on the vine directly due to the ineffectiveness and uselessness of our "National" bodies that do bugger all except line their pockets at members expense and look after their own vested interest.
This isn't just an opinion, look out the window at the state of British shooting and it is the evidence of the NRA ineffectiveness and inadequacy.
These petty MoD conditions embraced with alacrity by the NRA is just more of this.

I think Dromia’s post highlights how easily assumed disinformation becomes assumed information where conversations around the NRA happen. His post also underlines the lost opportunity for the NRA to share what they do get up to on every shooter’s behalf which I am grateful for.

Re: NRA Handloaders certification.
So the Bisley ranges have no need to comply with MoD range requirements?
So at Bisley shooters certification the double cost RCO course hand loaders certification and all other things implemented to appease the MoD are purely a free choice by the NRA?
Regarding NRA's activities beyond Bisley just look at the dire state of UK shooting and gun ownership to see that the NRA's "activities" are not delivering.nationally.
Bisley ranges have nothing whatsoever to do with the MoD and their is no relationship needed 'tween the MoD and the NRA for Bisley?
