Fitting a Harris bipod to a Lee Enfield No 4 Mk2

Hi all - I'm planning to fit a Harris bipod to my No. 4 Mk 2 using a modified front sling swivel as I'm reluctant to drill and fit a stud to the forestock. I see that Forum member Alpha1 posted about the same back in 2014, but the pics are no longer available, and as a new member I can't message anyone directly. Has anyone done this? Any comments on how it turned out and pics if possible would be welcomed. TIA

Yes, I would echo, just don't!

If it is for range use, just use a rest/bag :)

I agree. Bipods and military rifles do not belong together, unless it is original issue, such as on the Swiss K55 sniper rifle. I use a sling or rest my military rifles on my range bag.

It doesn't really lend itself. However, you could make a miniature shooting stick - like a canvas / leather sling on a tripod easily enough.

Because he wants to.

Absolutely, it's his rifle do do whatever he wants with.
Let's face it, No.4 Mk2's are hardly rare!

I would be interested in seeing how it is done as it would make it more accurate for my registered blind son to shoot.

Well each unto their own I guess. I've seen many Enfields with scopes mounted that are not original SMLE's and I don't feel that keeping them original means one should only shoot iron sights. But I used a no gunsmithing mount for my scope to avoid modifying. As for the bipod, I have shot mine with a bag rest, and I've also shot another Enfield with a bipod fitted and found that so much more stable. However, that rifle had a sling stud screwed into the forestock to mount the bipod and as I don't want to start drilling and modifying, I'd rather not go that route. Anyway - I suspect that a stud screwed into the wood will work loose sooner or later. Bottom line is that I'd like to try it, and if it doesn't prove to be practical, I can remove the bipod again without having made any permanent alterations to the rifle.
