It will be interesting to see the MI5/6 reports when they are finally released.

I have a lady customer who's father was awarded the V.C. for an action involving 'minature submarines' I don't know her maiden name so I don't know who her father was.. I'm itching to ask her, but we are not on familiar terms. I get the impression that she is very much old school and would not welcome me inquiring into her Fathers war record.

VC, so it could be the Tirpitz.

Time to google....

EDIT- X5 & XE9 are mentioned but I thought there was another one who's commander was awarded the VC,

Google some more..

There were two operations of miniature submarines that resulted in the VC.

Lt Fraser and LS Maggenis for an attack on an Atago class cruiser in Singapore.

Lt Cameron and Lt Place for the Tirpitz

edit:

Fraser & Magennis were on XE3

Cameron and Place X6 and X7

edit 2:

Place had 1 son and 2 daughters

Fraser 4 sons and 2 daughters

Magennis 3 sons

Hmm... I am finding conflicting information on this. I am convinced my information is wrong if my memory is anything to go on and I am not sure yours is right either.

Never trust Wikipedia. I will ask my father.

Yup, you are right.

The annoying thing is I did a quick google grabbed the information and posted it and even as I hit save I was thinking it was wrong...

Naval History lessons many years ago! The lecturer used acetates - so very good ones and to keep us awake and on our toes would drop in a Playboy centrefold every now and again!
