CHANGES TO MEMBERSHIP OF THE NRA COUNCIL AND VACANCIES

At the meeting of NRA General Council on Friday 7 September 2012, elections were held for some positions on the NRA Council.

Two members of Council had to stand down under the 6 year rule. They were Charles Murton and Mik Maksimovik. To fill these two vacancies only one member of General Council was willing to stand. That was Richard Bailie and he was elected. Two co-opted members of Council, David Frank and Derrick Mabbott, had served three years; Council proposed both of them for re-co-option but the General Council did not approve either proposal.

The voting was as follows:

Name Votes for Votes against abstained result
Richard Bailie 42 3 2 elected
David Frank 13 30 5 co-option not approved
Derrick Mabbott 21 25 2 co-option not approved

I would like to thank very much the four departing trustees for the very substantial work they have put in during their membership of the Council and the huge help they have been in guiding the Council through an extraordinary phase in the history of the NRA.

The new membership of the NRA Council consists of 8 people who are
Robin Pizer Chairman
Richard Bailie member of General Council
John Bloomfield Chairman of Shooting Committee
David Evans Chairman of Disciplinary Body
Peter Hobson member of General Council
Debbie Meredith Treasurer
Steve Wallis Chairman of Membership Committee
John Webster co-opted
Vacancies one member of General Council and up to 3 further co-opted members.

Note that there is currently no Vice Chairman of Council. David Frank was elected at the August Council meeting to succeed Charles Murton in this role but had to stand down when General Council decided not to approve his re-co-option. The Council will seek to elect a replacement Vice Chairman as quickly as possible.

The NRA Council will now consider the skills gaps that have opened up and advertise the vacancies amongst the membership and more widely for potential people who can cover the skills gaps. Candidates need to be prepared to spend 10 hours per week on NRA Council business although this should reduce substantially once the new Chief Executive is in place and has become familiar with his job. It will be the task of General Council to elect one new Council member and approve up to three co-options proposed by Council.

VACANCIES ON GENERAL COUNCIL AND DISCIPLINARY BODY

There are three vacancies amongst the ordinary members of the General Council and up to 4 vacancies amongst the co-opted members of General Council.
There are also three vacancies amongst the lay members and 1 vacancy amongst the legal members of the Disciplinary Body. The lay members have to be members of General Council. The vacancies for the Disciplinary Body will be advertised shortly.
Some of the vacancies on General Council may need to be filled by those lay members joining the Disciplinary Body and by a new trustee who needs to be a member of General Council.

So what does that all mean?

Is it good or is it bad?

Seems there was strength of feeling one way or the other.

The Acting General Secretary Mr Mabbot didn't get enough support. Wow, that speaks reams!
Hopefully Pfizer will go soon!
