Thanks for the insights chaps.....Robert303 wrote:Gazza,

Well, I was thinking of AK/Dragonuv furniture, stocks etc maybe the odd ex military scope depending on prices.
AK mags seem fairly common over here so wouldn't be worth the potential hassle.
The wife isn't keen to start with and it would be her doing it 100% as I don't have clue with the lingo/writing/confrontation!
I thought we could maybe offset the cost of the trip by selling a few Rooskie trinkets on return.
Looks like it will be furry hats and vodka......again!
Re: What are you allowed to bring back from Russia......
You could try the odd scope and scope mount BUT I think you will find them expensive as the last time I was in Hungary they were asking more than most the importers for PU scopes etc.
My advice is never buy anything abroad without having made a note of UK prices before you go. If you are with your wife you can ID the stuff you fancy and get a better price with her haggling in Russian.
If she is on her own she will not know a fake PU from a real one. Mosin Nagant slings and pouches are worth a look as are the cleaning kits BUT you'll not make a lot on them. You need them at half UK price to make it worth thinking about. Do NOT exceed your vodka allowance if you do and you are caught it will all be confiscated and I am told you will also be chased for the duty and Vat on them (this bit is new since I left)

I've found stuff like furniture can be had for reasonable prices on Ebay that appears to be from sellers in Russia using US Ebay and similar. You just have to dig. Last year I managed to find a good deal of internal Saiga AK components for not much money - wish I'd bought them on reflection.

All the Russian and Ukrainian sellers I get stuff from all sell genuine kit, there are that many original PU and PSO scopes etc etc knocking about over there so there is no need to sell fakes.I have bought optics, including NV scopes, and AK/Dragunov furniture etc a lot cheaper than they can be bought here.
As an example I got a set of black polymer Dragunov handguards for £30 posted from a seller in Moscow.Everything I have bought has gone through and been released by Russian customs, including current issue "Ratnik" kit so I would imagine that it would be much the same if buying items over there to bring back.
