There was a rumour at my school that a boy once made nitro-glycerine in the lab.
Your school wasn't in north london was it? near green lanes? the rumour starting in the mid 90s?
My chemistry teacher was quite accommodating, and didn't know what glyceryl trinitrate, nitrocellulose, or trinitrotoluene actually were.
Never made much though.
